Mayor Goldie Wilson

On KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #202: Too Hot To Tot Dana mentions that the interview he was doing with me was cut short because of an interview I had scheduled with Donald Fullilove.

Donald played Goldie Wilson in the first Back to the Future film. Goldie was a 1955 soda jerk who would become the mayor in 1985.

Donald also played Goldie Wilson III in the sequel Back to the Future part II.

Among Donald's other credits are Michael Jackson in The Jackson 5 cartoon and voice appearances in Up and Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron.

Episodes recorded together

On KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #202: Too Hot To Tot Ken and Dana record together. In the same room.

They discuss how rare this is. It has happened a few times before.

As they mentioned, KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #68: Snyde-lympics was recorded at Anime Supercon and  KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #113: Nuts On The Snyde Part 2 was recorded at DragonCon.

They also mention KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #112: Shoo Fly which was recorded at Milltown Arms Tavern near DragonCon.

Dana mentions an ep recorded on the way to Club 33. That was KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #14: Club 33.

There is also at least one more, KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #8: Tijuana Taxi which was recorded on It's a Small World.

EDIT: Got this via Twitter:
He is, of course, correct! KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #13: The Logo Fiasco-rama!

Are there any more?

Melbourne Indie Filmmakers Festival Set For Sept. 6

Ken and Dana are both set to appear at the Melbourne Indie Filmmakers Festival starting September 6.
This article from Space Coast Daily talks about the event and reads, in part:
BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Melbourne Independent Filmmakers Festival (MIFF) is set for Sept. 6-7, featuring a rarely seen 1969 beach movie shot in Brevard County, Cartoon Network Adult Swim personalities, dozens of quality independent films from around Florida and the globe, and the return of “Real Food Real Kitchens.”

Each year, the MIFF brings some of the best independent films to an enthusiastic Florida audience and promotes the filmmaking arts while raising money for good causes. The theme of this year’s event is “Blame it on Florida!” in honor of our exclusive presentation of one of the earliest successful independent films, and it hasn’t been seen in over 35 years. The 15th annual event will be held at the Premiere Theaters Oaks Stadium 10, 1800 W. Hibiscus Blvd. in Melbourne, Florida.

Each year, the MIFF brings some of the best independent films to an enthusiastic Florida audience and promotes the filmmaking arts while raising money for good causes.

At 9:15 p.m. Friday, the MIFF is proud to feature the triumphant return of comedian Dana Snyder (Master Shake from “Aqua Teen Hunger Force,” “Squidbillies”). If you missed it last year, we’re sure you heard about it.

He will host a spectacular R-rated comedy show featuring films and performance with special guests Lear Bunda (Adult Swim, “Squidbillies”), Matt Mariska (“Code Monkeys,” “Robot Chicken”), Jon Schnepp (“Metalocalypse,” “The Venture Brothers”), Andy Sipes (“Code Monkeys”), and cocktail-making aficionados Pat Martin and Billy Tracey from Facebook’s “What Are Pat and Billy Drinking?”

On Saturday, Sept. 7, the show begins early at 9 a.m. with the Florida Filmmakers Matinee, which will showcase an exceptional selection of short film projects from around the State of Florida.

At 1 p.m., the Meet the Filmmakers Roundtable Q&A will give a chance for the audience to interact with the filmmakers themselves.

At 2 p.m., special guests Zak Knutson (“MILIUS”) and John Schnepp (“The Death of ‘Superman Lives’: What Happened?”) will discuss their film careers and how to make a meaningful documentary for today’s audience and the future.

THE JOHN MILIUS DOCUMENTARY

At 3 p.m., director Zak Knutson presents, by exclusive engagement, “MILIUS – the John Milius Documentary.” Directed by Joey Figueroa and Zak Knutson, the film details the life story of one of the most influential and controversial film directors in the history of Hollywood, John Milius (“Apocalypse Now,” “Jaws,” “Big Wednesday,” “Conan The Barbarian,” “Dirty Harry,” “Red Dawn”).

imitation calamari

On Ken's 24 hour marathon of Chats in April he and Dana talked about imitation calamari made of pig rectum.

Dana talks about a 'This American Life' investigation. You can hear that here.

The Huffington Post also covered it:

'Imitation Calamari' Investigated By 'This American Life,' Suggested To Have Dubious, Pork-Based Origin

Plenty of foods come surrounded by urban legends. Hot dogs and genetically-modified organisms, for instance, come with a cadre of rumors -- some true, some patently false. But if a recent segment on "This American Life" is to be believed, it may be time to add calamari to the list.

The popular radio show's Jan. 11 episode focuses on doppelgangers -- people and things that appear extremely similar on the surface but are actually totally different.

Among the doppelgangers? Calamari's modest cousin, "imitation calamari."

Though it has a shape and texture similar to the real thing, its component parts are decidedly different. While calamari comes from squid, the replica is supposedly made of hog rectum, otherwise known as "bung."

The irony is not lost on Ben Calhoun, one of the show's producers, and ring-leader of the segment, who notes:

In restaurants everywhere, right this second, people are squeezing lemon wedges over crispy, golden, rings, dipping the rings into marinara sauce, and they're eating hog rectum. Now they're chewing -- satisfied and deeply clueless. It's payback for our blissful ignorance about where our food comes from and how it gets to us.
