Escape From Tomorrow

KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #195: Architectural Digestive features talk of the 2013 film Escape From Tomorrow.

The black-and-white horror-fantasy film debuted at the Sundance Film Festival.

It gives a dark look a man's descent into madness at a Disney resort.

The film was shot guerrilla style on location at both DisneyLand and DisneyWorld resorts, without permission.

Here is the plot from Wiki:

Shortly after waking up on the last day of a family vacation at Walt Disney World in Florida, Jim White (Roy Abramsohn) gets a call from his boss, who tells him that he has been laid off. He keeps the news to himself in order not to spoil the family's remaining time at the resort. While lounging at the swimming pool, he sees two French girls in their early teens jump in, and starts to develop an interest in them. After his son intentionally locks him out of the family's hotel room, he takes his daughters to the rides of the Magic Kingdom to spend time away from his nagging wife.
Their paths frequently cross the two French girls, whom Jim tries to keep up with. White's son, working with a wheelchair-bound man, make attempts on his life. The Disney characters and paraphernalia start to seem sinister and surreal, and White starts to have disturbing visions, such as the animatronic characters' faces changing and the Disney Princesses doubling as escorts for wealthy Asian businessmen visiting the park. He is not sure if what he sees is real, or if he is just having a breakdown.

Spaceship Earth at EPCOT Center
Eventually he is apprehended by park security, who seem inordinately concerned about a "cat flu" sweeping the park. He is taken to a secret detention facility under Spaceship Earth at EPCOT Center and interrogated about this. After being brainwashed, he is released, and watches as Spaceship Earth is blown up. At the end of the film he dies at the Contemporary Resort Hotel.

Dana tweeted some pics from a recent stay at the Madonna Inn.
You may remember he and Ken discussed this amazing place back on KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #91: Dad's Vinyl Pool.

A quick Google search seems to indicate this is called The Carin Room.
I hope it's renamed "The Dana Snyder Suite".

Sonny Bono

On KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #194: Alpining For The Ski Bores Dana mentions thinking of the late Sonny Bono when he was sledding.

Sonny Bono was a musician turned politician who tragically died in a skiing accident.

Here are some videos of Sonny Bono.

First, Sonny and Cher singing "I Got You Babe":

Here is Sonny Bono at a Palm Springs political debate arguing with the moderator. It's pretty weird:

Finally, here (in 3 parts) is Sonny's guest appearance on The Golden Girls. As you may remember, this is one of the sitcoms Dana finds funny.

Rock Tumbler

On KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #194: Alpining For The Ski Bores they talk about the "rock tumbler" that Dana bought his mom.

Ken asks if it was the "Model T":

You can get your own on Amazon... or borrow the one Dana's mom has. She probably wouldn't mind, she doesn't use it.

Or you could get these rock tumbler's
Then you could sip a cool beverage and realize you just don't care how smooth a rock is.

Speaking of a smooth Rock, check out The Rock's Tumblr. He posts some sweet pics:

Telly Savalas' Mountaintop Lair

On KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #194: Alpining For The Ski Bores Dana mentions that he didn't get to visit this place:
Made famous in the James Bond film On Her Majesty's Secret Service, it served as the hideout for Telly Savalas' character Blofeld.

It is a revolving restuarant named Piz Gloria. According to Wiki "on the Schilthorn near Mürren in the Bernese Oberland, Switzerland."

Normally, I'd hate to spend a vacation on the Schilthorn, but it looks pretty sweet!

When Bond location scouts found the restaurant it was only partially finished. In order to film there, the production paid to furnish the restaurant. It is still open today and is a popular tourist attraction.

Here is some footage from the film showing the approach to Piz Gloria via helicopter:

And here is the famous ski chase scene:

Eiger: Wall of Death... and Clint Eastwood!

KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #194: Alpining For The Ski Bores makes mention of Eiger:

FROM WIKI:
The Eiger (3,970 m (13,025 ft)) is a mountain in the Bernese Alps in Switzerland. It is the easternmost peak of a ridge crest that extends across the Mönch to the Jungfrau at 4,158 m. The northern side of the mountain rises about 3,000 m (9,800 ft) above Grindelwald and other inhabited valleys of the Bernese Oberland, and the southern side faces the deeply glaciated region of the Jungfrau-Aletsch, covered by some of the largest glaciers in the Alps.
The three mountains of the ridge are commonly referred to as the Virgin (German: Jungfrau - translates to "virgin" or "maiden"), the Monk (Mönch) and the Ogre (Eiger). The name has been linked to the Latin term acer, meaning "sharp" or "pointed," but more commonly to the German eigen, meaning "own".

The Clint Eastwood action film The Eiger Sanction uses the mountain as it's setting.

Here's some video for you! The 1975 trailer for the film:

Here is a 1 hour documentary on the mountain called Eiger: Wall of Death.

I suppose The Mountain That Dripped Blood was taken.

On KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #193: Boxing’s Been Good Ken and Dana talk about Guy Fieri's (no relation) New York City restaurant.

Particularly they mention the review by Pete Wells.

The review includes such quotes as

“Were you struck by how very far from awesome the Awesome Pretzel Chicken Tenders are?” and “When we hear the words Donkey Sauce, which part of the donkey are we supposed to think about?” and “Why did the toasted marshmallow taste like fish?"

You can read the whole review here.

Mrs. Richard's Slush Punch

On KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #193: Boxing’s Been Good Ken mentions a grade school holiday treat called Slush.

Here are his vague descriptions:

Kool Aid and Jell-O with a Slurpee consistency...

With hard crusty, too thick, Jell-O on top....

I think it was Strawberry Slush...
You had Ginger Ale for the kick and Kool Aid for the flavor....

There are quite a few "slush punch" recipes on the internet. I didn't find one that matched all of Ken's recollections  but a few sounded like they wouldn't suck.

For example, this one seems like it may be a winner:

 1-1/4 cups white sugar
3 cups water
1 (3 ounce) package strawberry flavored gelatin mix
1/2 (46 fluid ounce) can pineapple juice
1/3 cup lemon juice
2 cups orange juice
1 (2 liter) bottle lemon-lime flavored carbonated beverage (ex. Sprite)

DIRECTIONS
In a large saucepan, combine sugar, water, and strawberry flavored gelatin. Boil for 3 minutes. Stir in pineapple juice, lemon juice, and orange juice. Freeze in a ziplock. (I froze mine in two ziplocks so I could add a frozen chunk halfway through the party and keep it slushy)
When ready to serve, place the frozen contents of one container in a punch bowl, and stir in 1 bottle of lemon-lime soda until slushy.
