a closer look: Chu Chu and the Philly Flash

On KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #156: Sausage Gravy On A Trip Through The Mountains Dana mentions that the film Chu Chu and the Philly Flash is a frequent topic of conversation between him and Plumey.

Dana calls it "the most baffling movie."

It's a weird comedy with some of the greatest character actors of all time. Jack Warden, Sid Haig, Danny Aiello, Vincent Schiavelli, Ruth Buzzi and Vito Scotti all play along side lead actors Alan Arkin and Carol Burnett.

Burnett plays a Carmen Miranda type character and her performance is amazing.

You can watch the whole movie on youtube. Part 1 is here.

PHOTO: Dana signing a Lite Brite

Courtesy of seads.org here is a photo of Dana just after signing a Lite Brite at Anime SuperCon 2007. Dana also drew a sketch of Master Shake with the quote "I am The Drizzle."

You may remember The Drizzle was Master Shake's alter ego in the 2003 episode Super Hero.

The Lite Brite was a reference to the 2007 Boston bomb scare.

More photos of Dana at the 2007 convention can be found at seads.org.

Ken Plume's worst pickup lines

Have you started to follow Ken on Twitter? You should! He crams more comedy into 140 characters than you could imagine... unless you are really funny, too.

Here are some recent tweets from twitter.com/KENPLUME.
They all feature bad pickup lines, and it's capped off with a reference to tv icon Don Herbert:

Your place or my Mazda? #worstpickuplines

If I said you were beautiful, would you believe me? #worstpickuplines

I have come here to chew bubblegum and have sex, and I'm all out of bubblegum. Do you have any bubblegum? #worstpickuplines

Ow. My back. #worstpickuplines

Can you cash a check? #worstpickuplines

My friend was the original Tom Servo. #worstpickuplines (Now I know where I've been going wrong)

Know how I know we'll be spending the night together? I've got a receipt... #worstpickuplines

Yeah, I know CPR... #worstpickuplines

Hey! I've slept with your mother! Small world... #worstpickuplines

Here's my Second Life name... Look me up... #worstpickuplines

You going my way? 'Cause I could use a ride... Down there. And home. It's just across town. #worstpickuplines

Do you know what it's called when I rub this up against your sweater? #MrWizardPickupLines

VIDEO: Charlie Chan

On KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #170: Where There’s A Whey There’s A Will there is some talk of the film series Charlie Chan.
Here is a clip from one of those films:

A Bit of a Chat with Ken Plume & Megan Ganz

Over on asitecalledfred.com a new episode of Ken Plume's "A Bit of a Chat" series has been added entitled A Bit of a Chat with Ken Plume & Megan Ganz.

Megan is delightfully upbeat and her and Plumey chat about Chevy Chase, homes and her time with The Onion.

This chat also marks Megan's first Skype call. It's like playing guitar for the first on stage with Elvis.

Go ahead and give it a listen & subscribe on iTunes & give Plumey's show a positive review, please.

a closer look: This is Cinerama

On KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #170: Where There’s A Whey There’s A Will Dana tries really hard to explain This Is Cinerama.

"I really want them to show, that, This Is Cinerama, which is the movie - for those who don't know, the movie that they made, uh, that was about... it was basically, like, showing of the... you know, goodness of - whadayacallit. Like, the... um..."
Then Plumey interrupted him and he never finished his thought.

Cinerama was a unique film process that used three projectors and three screens to project a super wide image.

If you have been to Epcot, think of the Circlevision films in China and Canada - but remove six of those screens. And then make the images merge seamlessly.

Got it?

Here is a video of clips from This Is Cinerama:

This Is Cinerama was designed to show off the format. It is a documentary that features footage of a roller coaster, water skiing and a choir in a beautiful cathedral.

The film occasionally shows at Dana's favorite theater, the Arclight Cinerama Dome.

As the theater's name implies the theater was built to specialize in these films.

Despite the huge success of This is Cinerama (it was one of the highest grossing films of 1952) the format did not take off and only a handful of films were made in Cinerama.

The most notable film in the 3-strip format was How The West Was Won and the DVD of that film features a nice Cinerama print that you can watch at home along with info about the format.

Old Yeller Pig Ears

Have you listened to all 60 minutes and 43 seconds of KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #170: Where There’s A Whey There’s A Will?

If so, you are probably looking for the picture of Old Yeller Pig Ears Dana promised.

Well, look no further:

What about Bill?

On KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #170: Where There’s A Whey There’s A Will Dana and Ken...

Ah hell.

Just don't stare at it. It could cause permanent damage.

KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #170: Where There’s A Whey There’s A Will

Over on asitecalledfred.com a new episode has been unleashed entitled KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #170: Where There’s A Whey There’s A Will.

The show contains talk of Japanese dentists, Japanese Pixar voice actors, Japanese Sumo, Japanese puppets, Japanese naked men, Japanese bath houses and Japanese toilets:

Dana even SPEAKS Japanese in this one!

Dana talks about Disney's Old Yeller Brand dog food.

Then Bill Murray's homosexual obsession with Mr. Snyder is discussed.

If THAT isn't enough to get you iPod pumping then you, sir, are no 'number one son.'

Crackers!

On KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #169: Birthday-in-a-Biskit the boys talk about crackers. A lot.

Really! The only way a podcast could have the word "cracker" in it more is if it was hosted by The Black Panthers.

Inspired, I decided to head over to Wal-mart to see some of the crackers on the market.

Wanna know where they put Chicken in a Biskit? Bottom row all the way to the left.
Not exactly prime shelf space.

But who cares, it's 'family size' -assuming the whole family likes crackers that taste like a Lipton soup packet.

I like how on the back they have Chicken in a Biskit, a gallon of milk, grapes, an apple and cheese in a can. Chicken in a Biskit is part of this complete...ly crappy snack.

"Create some fun at snack time" indeed. I like that they used the cheese to paint the same symbols Popeye says when he gets mad.

Better Cheddars and Sociables live side by side like some kind of cracker odd couple. Seriously, doesn't Better Cheddars just remind you of Klugman?

Here is a cracker fave that Ken and Dana missed: Goldfish. They also missed the knock off 'whale' crackers.

Here the venerable saltines sit a row above some kind of Keebler in a can.

Dana mentioned water crackers. They are pretty freakin' awesome.

Here is a crackers & cheese combo featuring Ritz and Mister Salty, which is the pretzel equivalent of Chicken in a Biskit.

Check out that little piece of red plastic that you are supposed to use as a knife. You can't write cartoon curses with that.

Here some lazy person abandoned some Ramen and a box of Oops All Berries in the cracker aisle. Turn your head sideways and look at Cap'n Crunch. Even he seems embarrased at the crap they put his face on.

This inspired me to relocate the Chicken in a Biskit:

I stuck it next to the Chick'n Biscuits dog treats. I doubt your dog could tell the difference.

The Snydemail bag - Japan guidebooks

On Ken P. D. Snydecast #168: Rising Snyde Dana and Ken talked about lots of different things.

Here is the description from asitecalledfred.com:
KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #168: Rising Snyde - Ken & Dana return with talk of a trip to the Far East, exhaustion, Godzilla, and social networking failure.

At the end of that Dana mentioned a need for a specific guidebook.

Recently a response arrived. It contained some cool links and info I thought we would all enjoy:

Hi Dana,

You asked about a guidebook for Japan similar to the ones that Rick Steves has written about Europe. I've never been to Japan myself, though I did live nearby in Taiwan for a couple of years after college. Before I left the US I found a guidebook co-written by Rick called "Asia Through the Back Door." It may be out of print now, but you can find new and used copies on Amazon, and probably on eBay as well. It isn't a city-by-city, site-by-site guidebook so much as a general book of suggestions for travelers in Asia.

http://www.amazon.com/Rick-Steves-Asia-Through-Back/dp/1562611097

For travel guides to Japan specifically there are publishers like Lonely Planet, Rough Guide, etc.

Last summer on BoingBoing.net Mark Frauenfelder posted about some of the cool places he visited in Japan - specifically museums memorializing bizarre and cool aspects of Japanese culture. I think that you might like a few of them:

This other piece from BoingBoing might interest you, too:

Wherever you end up going in Japan I hope that you have a great time and report back about it on the Snydecast.

Ron G. from Georgia

a closer look: Dana and Ken watch E.T.

After five years you would expect a show to have some reruns.

So it's not too surprising that KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #169: Birthday-in-a-Biskit features a story from Ken and Dana that they both told us before. It's the story of how they both saw E. T. the first time.

On KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #109: Vomit Luge and KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #169: Birthday-in-a-Biskit Ken talks going to see E. T. The Extra-Terrestrial with a chum as he ate Triscuits in the back of his grandmother's chinook:

Dana mentions that he saw E.T. at the 25th Street theater in Easton, PA.

A small bit of research shows that there was an AMC Theater in the 25th Street Shopping Center that was open from 1979 to 2000.

It used to be right behind this McDonalds:

Interestingly Dana said he first tried a Chicken McNugget on that day. It's possible that was IN THIS McDonalds.

So if you ever find yourself in Easton, pull through the McDonald's drive thru and grab yourself a 10 peice then download E.T. on your iPhone and watch it in the parking lot. Or you could find a Chinook and eat Triscuits in the back as you watch E.T.

For more on E.T. visit your local library.

January 31, 2007

Today marks the 4 year anniversary of of the notorious Aqua Teen Hunger Force bomb hoax.

Dana and Ken talked about the hoopla on KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #25: Dana Loses

Here is the original description fromastecalledfred.com: [adult swim]’s Dana Snyder and Ken Plume’s weekly chat podcast returns, as Ken gloats - and gloats, and gloats, and gloats - about his winning of the Oscar pool, much to Dana’s chagrin. There’s also talk of “The Boston Event,” the Aqua Teen film, going legit, and much more…

It's a fun episode and worth another listen.

If you don't remember the details of the event, check out this clip:
