Restaurants Mentioned in Ken PD Snydecast 179 - PART 4

On Ken PD Snydecast 179: Butter Gravy the boys mention lots of restaurants.

Here are EVEN more of them:

The Highland Tap
Dana mentions that he hasn't been in this place for a while.

Known for fine steaks, this place has a cellar atmosphere.

Empire State South

Despite not being impressed by the TV chef who runs the place, Dana found this place INCREDIBLE.

This is Hugh Acheson of Top Chef  Masters:

I don't know how Dana could NOT be impressed by this guy! He's wearing a fake mustache as eyebrows!!

The restaurant was so good Dana went there two times in two days.

Paula Deen's The Lady and Sons Restaurant

Ken talks about wanting to go here and not eat.

They also discuss the "grillades" on the menu.

Here is the definition:
Grillades are a traditional New Orleans food generally served at breakfast or brunch with grits, and often referred to as grits and grillades. Recipes vary, but usually include beef, veal or pork; slow cooked with vegetables and served over grits.

What Plumey Didn't read...

On the latest Snydecast Ken read the following letter:
---------------------------------
Advice = TAKEN.
That's right, gentlemen. The beard is no more. Even though you warned us all in advance to basically do the exact opposite of anything you may have suggested, I went ahead and did it anyway (well, all except for the Paul Sr. handlebars thing.) I have now returned to my tried and true goatee-or-van-dyke-or-whatever-the-hell-it's-called look.
I have also once again attached photographic evidence for your consideration:

Thanks again, boys. And keep them 'Casts a-comin'.
Sincerely,
Aaron Cooper
------------------------------
Now, there was a paragraph that Ken omitted... possibly due to time constraints... or possibly because it was disturbing.
-------------------
Not only is the look much more professional, clean-cut, and easier to maintain, it also drastically reduces the amount of man hours necessary when creating digital art masterpieces such as this:

-----------------------------------
Yeah. I censored it. You are better off.
It involved a lady, a beard and a nightmare I once had about going 'all the way' with Willie Nelson's sister.
Thanks Aaron for sending me the email and thanks to Ken for saving us all hundreds of hours of therapy... except me.

Restaurants Mentioned in Ken PD Snydecast 179 - PART 3

On Ken PD Snydecast 179: Butter Gravy the boys mention lots of restaurants.

Here are EVEN more of them:

First mentioned on KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #173: Breakfast Nachos, Souplantation sounded fascinating. I pictured Uncle Remus singing Zip-a-dee-soup's-on!

Then I looked it up.

It's just a place that makes soup.

Benihana

Perhaps the most famous hibachi restaurant in America, Benihana was the place where Doc Hammer's veggies were cooked either in foil or on the spot where meat had been cooked.

The cooks are known for doing fancy tricks as they cook.

Here is a video:

More to come.

Here are some more of them:

Gladys Knight's Chicken And Waffles

Ken mentions wanting to go to this restaurant during his trip to DragonCon, but not having enough time. He laments missing his chance to be an honorary pip.

Kevin Rathbun Steak
Dana and Ken mention this place... take a gander at some of the appetizers:

The Miltown Arms Tavern

Despite being the location of KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #112: Shoo Fly neither Dana or Ken recall the name of this Cabbage Town location.

This is indeed the restaurant that had fine tater tots and was remodeling as they ate.

More to come.

Restaurants Mentioned in Ken PD Snydecast 179 - PART 1

On Ken PD Snydecast 179: Butter Gravy the boys mention lots of restaurants.

Here is a closer look at some of them:

The Sun Dial at the Westin in Atlanta Georgia
Ken mentions eating here recently.
Located at the top of a large hotel, this restaurant provides diners with stunning views and great cuisine.

The Silver Skillet
Dana mentions eating here and loving it. He mentions the wonderful southern waitresses:
He also mentions the biscuits and gravy and the pork chops which they serve grilled and fried:

Ken mentions having a lousy time a lounge/restaurant that had a stupid name like "Whackadoos".

Here are the restaurants at the hotel:
I bet it was The Deli.

More to come.

Dana Snyder's Talking Dennis Miller Doll hits Dragon*Con

On August 22nd Aaron Poole promised to answer any questions Twitter threw at him.
I asked if he would take Dana Snyder's Talking Dennis Miller Doll around Ireland someday.
This was his response:

Before you could say "Aaron was probably just kidding" I prepared Dennis for flight:

Anyway, Aaron went above and beyond "spreading the ironic Dennis Miller love":

He did a post all about it, and rather than cut and paste it, I want you to read it on his site. Then go back to his site regularly. He rocks!
Now, if you are curious about what racist jokes Dennis Miller says, here are some quotes from the box:

"Other than the bombs they strap to their chest, I have no absolutely no idea what makes the Palestinians tick."

"You'd like to get an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth with terrorists but every time I see them on TV all their teeth are rotted out of their heads or else they've lost as eye because they saw a chick's ankle somewhere along the way"

"The only way we were gonna get the French to go into Iraq was to tell them there were truffles in there."

So again, CLICK HERE FOR THE POST and many thanks to Aaron Poole for taking a silly idea and making it fantastic.
Will we ever see Dana's Talking Dennis Miller Doll again? Only time will tell....

Advice from Ken & Dana: To Beard Or Not To Beard?

On KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #178: Advise And Dissent Dana reads a letter from Aaron Cooper and mentions the pictures in the email. You can see them below:

Dear Snydecast,
I recently went on vacation and decided to forego shaving completely while away. Upon my return, my wife remarked on how much she liked the new growth, so for the past couple months I've been letting my beard grow out. I am still undecided as to whether I like the new look or not. So after hearing your call to action during the latest episode of the Snydecast (about damn time, by the way) I figured who better to advise me on this matter than the masters of facial hair themselves, Ken Plume and Dana Snyder. I have attached a few photos to aid in your decision-making process.
Thank you in advance.
Your faithful listener (even through the darkest hours),
Aaron Cooper
Downs, KS
--
Here's a picture of me, bearded:
And, for comparison's sake, here's a picture of me sans-beard:
And for further comparison, here's a picture of me sans facial hair period, back when I was a junior in high school (don't be jealous):
And lastly, and for absolutely no reason whatsoever, here's a picture of me having sex with Yoko Ono:

PS: On a completely unrelated note, I'm curious to hear Dana's impressions of his visit to the Garden of Eden in Lucas, KS. It was brought up in Snydecast 173, but the conversation was quickly derailed into a lengthy discussion of Casa Bonita. I live less than an hour from Lucas and have visited the Garden of Eden myself. I'd love to hear Dana's thoughts.
Thanks again!-AC
FROM TWITTER:

NOTE: Below is another email I got from Aaron Cooper that I hadn't got a chance to post due to the influx of new Snydecasts (never thought I'd write that phrase again!)

So as I was listening (again) to the boys discussing Julia Child's kitchen on today's NEW Snydecast, I thought of the perfect way to repurpose Dana's Oscar-worthy "Terror Phone Charley Horse" face. ;)

Toon Lagoon

On KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #178: Advise And Dissent Ken and Dana talk briefly about Toon Lagoon at Universal Studios Islands of Adventure.

Ken remarks about how "cheap" looking it is.

Here is some info from Wiki:

Toon Lagoon is geared toward both kids and adults, and is based on the characters of King Features Syndicate and Jay Ward. The area focuses on water-based rides (hence the name) and features 3 counter-service restaurants: Comic Strip Cafe (offering Italian & Chinese Cuisine, Burgers & Dogs, and Fried Chicken & Fish), Blondies (home of the famous Dagwood), and Wimpy's (only open during peak seasons) & All On Mulberry Street.

The Island is rigged with dozens of water props that squirt at visitors and can be interacted with if so desired. In addition, visitors have the option of further soaking those who are riding on board water rides by squirting them with water guns, activating water cannons, and more.

Yeah, it's not that well themed. But hey, where else can you see Cathy spread eagle on a mound of ice cream?:

1981 Disneyland map & Donald Duck

On KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #178: Advise And Dissent Ken mentions going to Disneyland when he was 4 years old.

That was likely1981.

Here is a look at the map of Disneyland from 1981:

Ken also mentions that his dad got him a plush Donald Duck that he still has.

Here's a Donald Duck from that era:

Ken mentioned the synthetic pellets it's filled with:
Who knows what they are? We just know they are synthetic!

The Man Who Killed Dana's Mustache

Remember Dana's mustache:

Of course you do. How could you forget?
On KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #178: Advise And Dissent Dana revealed why he had to shave it.
Because of this man:

Quin Gresham is the Artistic Director at the Lyceum Theatre in Arrow Rock.
Mr. Gresham directed Dana in Damn Yankees, Run For Your Wife and The Producers and, of course, has an impressive career sans Dana.

He just doesn't know a good mustache when he sees it.

Dana had to lose the mustache for a production of The Sound of Music.

Never forget:

Van Dyke vs Goatee

On KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #178: Advise And Dissent Ken and Dana talk briefly about the Van Dyke and the Goatee.

From wiki:

Goatee refers to a style of facial hair incorporating hair on a man’s chin. The exact nature of the style has varied according to time and culture.
Goatee refers solely to a beard formed by a tuft of hair on the chin—like on the chin of a goat, hence the term 'goatee'. Since the late 1990s, the term has been misused to refer to the style of facial hair called the Vandyke, a combination of a goatee and a mustache. This does not typically include the tuft just under the lip, more commonly referred to as the soul patch.

A Van Dyke (also spelled Vandyck or Van Dyck) is a style of facial hair named after 17th century Flemish painter Anthony van Dyck. A Van Dyke specifically consists of any growth of both a moustache and goatee with all hair on the cheeks shaven. Even this particular style, though, has many variants, which range from a curled moustache versus a non-curled one and a soul patch versus none.

Here's Dana with a mustache:

Dana with stubble:
Dana with a soul patch:
Dana with a full beard:
And here's Ken with a beard:

Ken without a beard:

Ken: I hate having a beard.
Dana: Why do you have it if you hate it?
Ken: Because it looks better than being clean shaven, sadly.
Dana: So you hate your face even more than you hate having a beard.
Ken: Essentially, yes.
