Twitter: Amimalympics

Ken turned us on to a neat little film on Twitter:

Steven Lisberger directed Tron and a couple other films. One of them was Animalympics.

Animalympics is an odd little cartoon that was made originally as a two part TV special and then was cut into a feature film.

The backstory of this film is detailed on Wikipedia:
Originally commissioned by NBC in 1978, it was produced as two separate shows intended to air along with the network's 1980 winter and summer Olympics coverage. However, only the half-hour winter show made it to the small screen, as the Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan caused President Jimmy Carter to boycott the Moscow Summer Olympics. As America stayed away, NBC canceled its Olympic coverage, and Lisberger's hour-long companion special along with it. However, from its conception, producer Donald Kushner and director Steven Lisberger intended the project as a feature-length theatrical release. The resulting version, recorded and mixed in Dolby surround sound via magnetically-striped 35mm film, had its debut at the 1980 Miami Film Festival, where it was well-received. It was released in various countries overseas during the summer season that same year.
Though it never found a theatrical distributor in the U.S., Animalympics was soon acquired by Warner Bros. for home video and pay-TV release. The movie aired in summer 1984 on HBO and Showtime nationwide, as well as intermittently during the early-to-mid 1990's on The Disney Channel, and also on Philadelphia's PRISM.

Luckily the whole film is on YouTube:

Ken on Radio Rashy

If you have not heard it yet, Ken appeared on the podcast Radio Rashy. Here is the episode description:

The merriment continues with special guest Kenneth Plume, of www.asitecalledfred.com. Ken's world-famous impersonation of Brian Blessed caps a show dealing with Misty's plans to steal pudu, the tale of Paul's aborted Dastardly & Muttley movie and how inflatable Donald Duck swim rings might have saved lives aboard the Titanic. All this, plus Emily's new tie!

You can find the episode here.

Also check the Radio Rashy archives. Ken is on episode 25 as well.

Twitter: Arthur & Arthur 2

Over on Twitter Ken put up the following tweet:

The link went to this picture:

We will deal with the sticker, but first here is a look at the 1981 film Arthur:

It's a fun film from a time when alcoholism was just a hoot!

Here is one of the more memorable moments from the film:

Arthur was a big hit. Inevitably a sequel followed:

They even made a cartoon version for the kids:

Or maybe that's a different Arthur... but man he can rap.

Now, about that sticker:

Yep, the remake starring Russell Brand. If you haven't seen the trailer yet take a look:

What was Widget's response to the sticker?

THERE IS NO STICKER.

VIDEO: Ken interviews the Misery Bear

Here is a great video that Ken made in conjunction with rednosenet.com where he conducts "A Bit Of A Chat" with Misery Bear.

Misery Bear is a teddy bear featured in a series of funny videos on BBC that will make you sad... and laugh.

Ken's performance in this video is a riot.

When will the Snydecast return?

Ken recently had the following exchange on Twitter:

Soon enough? Man, I better charge my iPod.

Video: Hold Hands You Lovebirds

At the very start of KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #108: OH, WHATEVER Ken says "Hold hands you lovebirds".

The phrase is from The Three Stooges short Brideless Groom.

In the short Shemp must be married before 6pm to inherit half a million dollars.
Emil Sitka, a longtime Stooge collaborator, plays a 'justice of the peace' who utters the phrase... many times.

It's a classic short that you MUST see for yourself.

a closer look: The Laurel and Hardy Museum

During the first year of the show an oft brought up topic was the Laurel and Hardy Museum that Dana Snyder visited in Harlem, GA.

Harlem, GA was the birthplace of Oliver Hardy (the heavyset member of the duo) and the museum opened there in 2002. The museum houses an impressive collection of Laurel and Hardy memrobillia.

There is also a Laurel and Hardy museum in the UK and in Germany. But they don't have a picture of Tommy Glasscock.

Tommy, you may remember, was mentioned on the show because of an oddly captioned photo that Dana saw at the museum.

The photo was a young boy dressed as Oliver Hardy from a festival in Harlem. The caption included the phrase "we grow our own".

The phrase seemed to give off a "Hardys of the Corn" vibe to Ken as he mentioned in Ken P. D. Snydecast 16: Tommy Can You Hear Me.

Tommy remained elusive to the show for a while, but eventually he was found. Tommy (aka Big T) runs his own business in Harlem, GA.

The museum is right in the heart of Harlem, GA and is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10am until 4pm.

Video: Neil Innes - Godfrey Daniel

In KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #108: OH, WHATEVER Ken and Dana talk of Neil Innes and the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band.

Ken talks up Neil, as he should. Neil Innes is fantastic entertainer known for his work in Monty Python and The Rutles.

On one of his "Bit of a Chat" programs Ken and Mike Phirman (half of the comedy duo Hard ‘N Phirm) talk about Neil and watch his video for Godfrey Daniel. You can hear Ken's interview here.

You can watch the video right here:

a closer look: The Maharaja Pez

Back in episode 5, Bed Buggin' the boys talked about a $500 Boba Fett helmet that was newly released.
Ken asked Dana what was the most expensive collectible Dana has bought. Dana scoffed at the question saying he never paid more than a hundred dollars for such a thing. Dana said the closest thing he had was a Maharaja Pez dispenser.

Dana bought it on eBay for $50.

According to Pez Pals, Maharaja was one of the Pez People (or Pez Pals) a group of Pez that featured the same head with different attachments to make it unique. Some also came in a darker skin tone.

Many variations exist including a Bride, Doctor,Sheik, a Mexican boy and a ringmaster.

Each of the different "characters" were also available in many different varieties (with or without hair, mustaches, different color hats, etc.)

The Maharaja was available in several different color turbans and several different colored stems.

If you want to own one, like Dana, it will cost you a little more money. There is one on eBay right now for $54.95. Mention the coupon code "SNYDECAST" and they will be very confused.
