Nora Ephron's "Lady Movies"

Nora Ephron passed away this week. She was a wonderful writer and wrote two of the films mentioned in this exchange from KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #63: Go Green!:


Dana: I love all movies except lady movies.
Ken: Now, what's your definition of lady movies?
Dana: You know, Thelma and Louise, A Room With A View, The English Patient uh… whatever that f***ing thing… The Women-The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Need I go on?

Ken: Yeah!
Dana: A movie that only appeals to ladies.
Ken: I want to see how many you can name, now.
Dana: What?
Ken: I want to see how many you can name, now.
Dana: That's all I'm gonna name because I can't think of any more.
Ken: What about, uh, When Harry Met Sally?
Dana: Uh… almost a lady movie. 'cept it has Billy Crystal in it who I assume is appealing to no woman… so…
Ken: …and Bruno Kirby.
Dana: Right.
Ken: and Carrie Fisher.
Dana: Yeah. Okay. Enough with the cast list!
Ken: I'm just sayin'.
Dana: Which… alright let's do this for a little bit. Lady movie, or not lady movie?
Ken: (laughs) Sleepless in Seattle
Dana: Definite lady movie. Although I have seen it.
Ken: Okay… Princess Bride.
Dana: Not a lady movie. On first sight you might think it's a lady movie but it's actually not. Because once again, Billy Crystal is in it.


 Maybe "lady movies" aren't your thing, either. But still, I suggest you look into the work of Nora Ephron. There is probably something in there that you'll enjoy!

MORE Tommy Cooper

Yesterday we looked at a video of Tommy Cooper. Tommy was mentioned on KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #150: Golden Soles Part II.

The boys talked about his sad death onstage and Ken's assertion that he was famous in England and Dana's assertion that "that doesn't count as famous."
Dana later relents after seeing a clip of Tommy performing.

KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #151: So Very Black was the death podcast. Ken and Dana talked about deaths that occurred on stage or in films.

It was sad.

They mention a video they watched of Tommy Cooper having a heart attack on stage. They ask that the video not be posted on this site.

I don't blame them. I don't even want to see it.

The Crayola Factory

On KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #153: Fat Fat Fatty Dana mentions that Crayola crayons are made in his hometown of Easton PA.

It's true!

The Crayola factory (aka The Crayola Experience... it's not just a factory, it's an EXPERIENCE) is located at 30 Centre Square, Easton, PA.

You will know you have arrived because a giant box of crayons is spilling from the top of the building:

In side you will find a giant coffee cup filled with CRAYONS.

Kid's sit under it and color as their parents sip the house blend of crayon flavored coffee.

On display are the ACTUAL Crayons that Dennis Rodman used to color his hair (circa 1997):

I wanted to find a video of this factory and I found a doozy. Originally aired on Sesame Street, it shows how the crayons are made.

First Ed pours in the crayon pulp:

Dana Snyder to appear at San Diego Comic Con 2012

Dana will be moderating the Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Squidbillies panel on Friday 7/13 and then signing autographs at the Adult Swim booth.

The Ken PD Snydecast LOST episode

Here is something that has been fascinating me lately:

KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #68: Snyde-lympics - Ken & Dana return with a special live show direct from the Miami Anime Supercon. It’s raw, it’s wild, it’s unpredictable, and we guarantee it’s almost listenable. Well, barely listenable. We’ll be back proper next week… Promise.

Do you remember this one? I listened to it recently... or at least I tried to.

It's a live episode from 2008. As Ken said on the next episode, the mic on the recorder was picking up the sound (not the external mic they spoke into.)

What you get is an echo-y episode, where you can hear a girl in the front row far clearer than Dana or Ken.

In addition to Dana and Ken there are a few guests. You hear Widgett Walls throughout and you definitely hear Jay Edwards introduced.

A complete innovation in the world of podcasting, it was borderline white noise for the most part with faint notions of dana and ken and a few other people throughout. The best way to describe it would have to be, art.
