Dana has watched the movie and is let down by the lack of specifics on the split between the brothers.
The documentary is very light on details of the anger between the duo.
As Dana mentioned the film has one scene that starts to get specific. Robert was burned out and wanted to quit. Richard went to Robert's home to get some clothes for him. This was, somehow, misconstrued and a few days later Robert came home and things were never the same.
They described this as the 'last straw.'
Here is how the DVDMG.com review explained it:
We learn that Dick and Bob aren’t close, and we get a hint that this stemmed from an incident when Bob briefly left his wife, but that’s about all she wrote. We don’t get the level of psychological introspection to investigate the topic well, so we’re left to wonder what went wrong with the two.
In an interview here one of The Sherman Brothers' sons was asked to pin it down:
Did you ever find out what the rift was about?
Two guys with very different personalities, that’s it. There is something about those differences that make for bad relationships but great collaboration. They are able to come at things from many different angles.
Perhaps, like Dana and Ken said, we won't know until one of them passes away...
...or Dana tricks Richard with his prank call.

The GE Carousel of Progress pitch reel- This wonderful video was made by Disney to pitch the idea of The Carousel of Progress attraction for the 1964 World's Fair. The clip starts with Walt and The Sherman Brothers at the piano playing the theme "There's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" watch for the GE logos on their backs. Afterwards Walt gives us a preview of the attraction which opened at the World's Fair and then moved to Disneyland and still runs today at Walt Disney World in Florida.
