Dana: Alright, what are we in? Seventh grade? We will laugh about that later, when we get in seventh grade.

Ken: I say we take the podcast down to seventh grade. That way we get more listeners.

Dana: He basically has the world’s worst stage presence.

Ken: Yeah, but look at the rise. The rise of Liberace really happened- and again, I don’t mean the puns, In the 50s with TV. Anyone could be a star in the 50s.

Dana: Oh absolutely it did! There it worked perfect.

Ken: Because he was flamboyant, he had massive gestures that filled a TV screen.

As the podcast continued Dana talked about how Liberace would often show the audience his expensive rings.

Warner Brothers Movie World Australia

On KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #91: Dad’s Vinyl Pool, Dana has returned from a trip to Australia and talks of his time at Warner Brothers Movie World and some of the "crazy" attractions they have there.

First, he mentions the Scooby-Doo Spooky Coaster based on the 2002 Scooby Doo film (which takes away any interest Plume had in the ride.)

Dana explains the outlandish props on the ride and does a funny Scooby Doo impression during the conversation.

Here is a neat video of the ride, with the lights on! It makes it easier to see what the props look like, but remember, the actual ride is in the dark:

Dana also talks about the cheap 1980s laser light effects:

And that the entrance looks far more kid friendly than the actual ride is:

After Scooby Doo, Dana talks about The Dirty Harry Bar and the "go ahead, make my nachos" sign:

And he mentions how they play the film inside despite the fact that it's a gritty R-rated flick and children are everywhere inside the restaurant.

Later they discuss how all the rides shut down in the middle of the day. Aussie listener Scott Lane explained to me that this is for the big street parade:

Seems odd to us here in the USA. Disneyland runs all the rides and shows during TWO daily parades and fireworks... still, Disneyland's parade doesn't have the good sense to pair Sylvester the cat with Catwoman:

Can you imagine what their kids would look like?

WB Movie World also pairs up Mike Myers' Shrek with Mike Myers' Austin Powers in the parade:

Day Boat Sea Scallops, nightly preparation

Below is an exchange from KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #40: Mid-Cast Crisis about Dana and Ken's dinner at Club 33.

You may recall that something just wasn't right about something Ken ate there...

Ken: Oh, by the way! I have solved a mystery. From a prior podcast...
Dana: Oh, what the food was from Club 33?
Ken: I have found the dinner menu.
Dana: Where?
Ken: Online of course. Someone took digital photos of the holiday 2007 dinner menu at Club 33.
Dana: Oh my god!
Ken: Not even we did that! So, what I had... ready for this?
Dana: Do you have the whole menu in front of you?
Ken: I have the whole menu.

Dana: The issue you had was an appetizer, right?
Ken: Right.
Dana: So, what was it?
Ken: It was a Day Boat Sea Scallop.
Dana: (laughs) Oh, ok!

Ken: Oh, as it says "nightly preparation" so I guess they don't just make them a week before and freeze 'em.
Dana: They do... but they do that at night.
Ken: Oh yeah, they thaw them nightly.
Dana: No. They cook them at night and then they freeze them and then a week later they serve them, but they were prepared at night.
Ken: And then re-prepared.
Dana: They're prepared every night, but they're prepared a week ahead of time.
Ken: Is it some kind of culinary term "day boat" or is that just some kind of affectation?

Here is some info from answerbag.com:

Sea scallops come from the North Atlantic coast from New Jersey to Labrador Canada, specifically concentrated off the coast of Maine. They are dredged from the sea bed as deep as 900 feet.

The best scallops are called diver or day boat scallops. Divers are collected by hand by divers and they are generally the largest in size. Day boat refers to boats that fish for scallops just for the day, rather than the traditional method of dredging for up to 10 days before returning to harbor. Scallops may be soaked in a phosphate dip which adds weight, turns them more white and mushy in color and lengthens shelf life.

Sea scallops are the largest of the 400 or so member scallop family with a firm textured, sweet meat. They are marine bivalves with orb-shaped shells that when quickly opened and closed cause the scallops to zigzag in flights through the water. They are free swimming and migrate during certain times of the year to different feeding grounds.

If you don't know about Club 33 it's a private club in "New Orleans Square" in Disneyland.

The club is not open to the public. You must either be a member or a guest of a member.

Disneyland Adventures on Xbox Kinect

On Ken P. D. Snydecast #163: Holiday Shebangery the boys talk a lot about video games in Walt Disney theme parks.
Dana laments that they haven't just made a video game where you walk around Disneyland.

Since then, XBOX has:

The Disneyland Adventures game for the XBOX360 Kinect is about the closest thing to actually being there.

Basically every square inch of the Anaheim Disneyland park has been created in a virtual world. You can walk by and see the buildings, trash cans, restaurants and ride facades. It's a pretty remarkable recreation.

Take a look at these videos just showing a walk around of some of the different lands:

The downside to the realism is that you can't just hop on and pretend to ride most of the attractions.
Some of them, like King Arthur's Carousel and Astro Orbiter do work that way, but most of the rides represented in the game are "based on" the original ride and play more like a goofy kids game than an actual ride on, say Haunted Mansion.

Here is a look at the game play of the Haunted Mansion:

The Kinect is sorta like the Wii only the XBOX can see and hear you, so you don't hold a controller. I find the controls far more responsive than the Wii too.
I also find that I would rather sit on the couch and hold a controller... but that's my problem.
Basically when you stand in front of your XBOX and move your leg, your character moves his leg in the same fashion.
You can't flip off Mickey Mouse in the game, however, I tried. It doesn't let you.
But you can hug Cinderella too... but you can't touch her there... or there... or there...
Oh well.

So, how familiar are you with Jack Benny? Had you heard of him before you started to listen to the Ken P. D. Snydecast? Did you just know his name from the scene in Back to the Future when Doc assumes that if Ronald Reagan became President, Jack Benny must be secretary of the treasury? BTW, Doc's line was a rather witty joke since Jack's character was notoriously cheap.

Whether you have seen Jack Benny on his TV show or in movies, or if you only have a vauge knowlege of him; or if you are so young that Back to the Future seems like it was in the stone age and you aren't totally sure who that Ronald Reagan cat was, I have a treat for you.

Jack Benny Goes Christmas Shopping is one of the very best episodes of The Jack Benny Show and possibly the funniest Christmas special of all time.

It features Jack and Rochester along with a great cast of comedic actors:

Frank Nelson who's comic "yeeesssss" was often featured on both Jack Benny's show and Sanford & Son.

Charlie Cantor who plays a lingerie salesman who is uncomfortable touching the garments with his bare hands- especially the black ones.

And Mel Blanc who steals the show playing a wallet salesman descending into madness. Watch closely towards the end of the episode. When Mel starts rolling, even Jack can't help but laugh.

Go ahead, give it a look and next time Ken and Dana start to talk about the greatness of Jack Benny you will know why.

Brian Blessed as Santa

There is still time for a new Christmas Snydecast for 2011, but in the meantime, this oldie is definitely a Christmas classic.
KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #22: Part 1 - Holiday-a-Go-Go and KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #22: Part 2 - Holiday-a-Gone-Gone are the two parts of a wonderful musical Christmas journey.

Recorded back to back in 2006, these episodes feature Dana and Ken sharing songs from their holiday CD mixes. You get a sample of a most of the songs they mailed out that year.

First you get to hear Ken as David Seville and Alvin, Simon and Theodore. The words "Go to Hell, Dave" have never sounded so adorable.

Barry Gordon's "Zoomah, The Santa Claus From Mars" and Troy Hess' "Christmas on the Moon" compliment each other perfectly with wacky space themed holiday tunes warbled by kids.

Also on the boys' CDs are a pair of monster themed songs 'A Monster's Holiday' and 'Monster Christmas Mash'.

Dana and Ken go through most of the tracks on each of their CDs. Ken's features music he found listenable.
Dana found his CD, of mostly novelty tunes, to be more listenable.
For example Ken included a track by the Flaming Lips. Dana's reaction to it is priceless.

These episodes are great to spin as you wrap presents or a background to your office holiday party.

On KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #173: Breakfast Nachos Ken refers to London as being "a series of tubes."

The only three things I know about London are:

1. They have a bridge that's falling down, my fair lady.
2. Dangermouse lives there.
3. When people with an accent say "London" I always think they said "Orlando".

So I was a bit baffled.

Perhaps you were too. Or maybe you are baffled by the Orlando thing. Who cares.

Anyway, there is no need to be. The Tube is a nickname for the subway system in London.

Yep. You just watched that.

It's the second largest metro system in the world behind the one in Shanghai.

One of the most distinctive things about the system is the "mind the gap" announcement. It's kind of a big pop culture thing.

There were a handful of videos on YouTube talking about Tube etiquette. It seems you should never look people in the eye or chat with anyone and if you have a broken oyster you should get out of line.
Oh right, they call the subway cards "oyster cards".

I didn't really learn much from watching this video, but the girl who hosted it was good looking so I figure about 1/2 of you would like to see it:

Video: The Laurel & Hardy Museum

Harlem, GA was the birthplace of Oliver Hardy (the heavyset member of the duo) and the Laurel & Hardy museum opened there in 2002. The museum houses a collection of Laurel and Hardy memrobillia.

There is also a Laurel and Hardy museum in the UK and in Germany. But they don't have a picture of Tommy Glasscock.

Tommy, you may remember, was mentioned on the show because of an oddly captioned photo that Dana saw at the museum.

The photo was a young boy dressed as Oliver Hardy from a festival in Harlem. The caption included the phrase "we grow our own".

The phrase seemed to give off a "Hardys of the Corn" vibe to Ken as he mentioned in Ken P. D. Snydecast 16: Tommy Can You Hear Me.

The museum (and the Tommy Glasscock photo) are right in the heart of Harlem, GA and is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10am until 4pm.

S. P. Dinsmoor and his Garden of Eden

Did you catch Dana's mention of The Garden of Eden in Kansas during the last Snydecast?

It's a weird place.

Samuel Perry Dinsmoor (1843-1932) was a Kansas school teacher and is best known for his sculptures at his cabin known as The Garden of Eden.

I don't really have a handle on this place. It sounds like it is either the greatest place ever or something in dire need of a bulldozing.

I don't know what to think.

I did look at reviews of the place online. This dude said it gave him the "willies".

A little penicillin should clear that up.

Wait... whaaaa? Dinsmoor's corpse is on display?!?!?

Astounding.

Dinsmoor not only has his body on display, but he used a photographer's trick of double exposing the negative so that he could have a picture of him looking at himself in the crypt.

I know this seems like nothing now, but in the days before photo shop, this was pretty dang impressive.

Today, I can make a picture of Ron Jeremy looking at him in the crypt and it takes just 20 seconds:

And it looks like I spent just 20 seconds on it.

But that's not the point. The point is that this dude was a visionary. A weird visionary.

On On KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #173: Breakfast Nachos Dana talks about his routine at Hometown Buffet.

First he gets nachos. He puts the nachos right on the plate with spicy cheese sauce on top. Next is the main portion of the meal, a large salad. The salad includes spinach, beets, little corn, little peas, onion, hard boiled egg and ~~sesame seeds~~ sunflower seeds.After that he is basically full, but he gets a little extra. The most recent time it was 1 chicken wing & 1 small scoop of mashed potatoes and gravy.

Fascinating.

If anyone asks you why you love the Snydecast, don't show them the above paragraph. Assure them that Dana and Ken ponder the issues of the day with a poignancy few people have.

I found a mediocre commercial for the restaurant online. Since some of you probably skip the videos, I am going to break it down for you.

See there is this nerd and he's dining alone and this "I Love Lucy" looking waitress served him a plate with a green donut, a pork chop and some hashbrowns. He's like "Lady, this aint what I ordered, I never order a green donut, a pork chop and some hashbrowns."

Then she get's all up in his face saying "Girlfriend, you did not just say that I made a mistake. I don't never make a mistake."

Then the announcer says "Screw that! Go to a buffet."

Then they explain in detail what a buffet is. "You don't order, you just choose."

Then they show this couple:

See, people don't go to the buffet ALONE like that tool at the beginning of the commercial. People that eat at buffets also get babes. FACT!

To drill home the point we see this dork again showing her what he ordered off the MENU! Menus are stupid. Hometown Buffet has no use for them.

Yep, the buffet is pro-choice. Notice the plate of spaghetti they use as an "o", brilliant.

Casa Bonita

On KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #173: Breakfast Nachos Dana talks about the very bizarre Mexican restaurant in Denver called Casa Bonita.

You may have seen the restaurant parodied on South Park.

The South Park episode "Casa Bonita" prominently features the Colorado branch of the restaurant. Other episodes that mention it briefly are: "Quest for Ratings" (where a clock is labeled as showing the time at Casa Bonita), "You Have 0 Friends" and "201" (where the restaurant is reportedly destroyed). Additionally the building that houses South Park Studios was named after the restaurant.

Anyway, I found this video which gives a great overview of what a night a Casa Bonita would be like... without the lousy food.

They even show the the small passage Dana mentioned that the food is slid through.

It also shows the cliff divers, part of a puppet show and a juggling gorilla.

The only downside is it's someone's family video and so you have to watch them at points. I am sure they are nice people but watching someone's home movies is always a bit annoying. Especially when you don't know them.

Nonetheless they made a nice HD video of Casa Bonita and you should take a look:

Since the last Snydecast dropped back in late April much has happened to our favorite pod people...

Ken has released 50 episodes of his "A Bit of a Chat" podcast. Ken has also done 3 episodes of Whotininnies Check them out here and here.

Dana performed onstage in Arrow Rock Missouri in Run for Your Wife, The Sound of Music and Damn Yankees.

Dana also appeared at the Florida Supercon in Miami:

Ken appeared at Dragon-con sans Snydely...

...but Dana appeared at D23.

Dana also was a celebrity judge for the Mid-Missouri's Got Talent competition.

Both Ken and Dana celebrated birthdays since April.

Here on the Snydecast Experience we explored Dana's past as a male model, reported Snydely sightings at Musso & Franks, tried to uncover an amazing joke Ken once told, found people that WEREN'T Dana Snyder and dealt with our feelings of sadness.

Plus, we made a video of Dana eating a sandwich.

It was good times, and we made it through this dry spell... I think... the new episode hasn't been released yet.

This time it wasn't Rwiggum or David Eppstein. It was a new group of jackasses.

Anyway, the Snydecast page is gone because it is "web content" and isn't significant.

This isn't to say that no podcasts are on Wikipedia. Other celebrity podcasts do have wiki pages. Shows like Adam Corolla's & Kevin Smith's do get a page, as they should.

As an experiment I decided to make a new Snydecast wiki page. I made it as short as possible. Filled it only with facts and I am now waiting to see if it bites the dust like the last one did.

I tried to do the same for Ken Plume, but a roadblock is in place if you are trying to re-create a deleted entry. Luckily the previous Snydecast page was not under the name "The Ken P. D. Snydecast" or the same would have happened.

Unable to make one for Ken Plume I made on for "Ken plume". Capitalization means everything.

Let's keep an eye on these and see what happens. It will give us something to do as we wait for the next episode of the Snydecast...

Anywhoo, Elisabeth Kübler-Ross brilliantly laid out the stages that everyone goes through when dealing with the loss of a loved one... or a loved podcast.

The stages include:

Denial — "I feel fine."; "This can't be happening, not to me."Denial is usually only a temporary defense for the individual. This feeling is generally replaced with heightened awareness of possessions and individuals that will be left behind after death.

Anger — "Why me? It's not fair!"; "How can this happen to me?"; '"Who is to blame?"Once in the second stage, the individual recognizes that denial cannot continue. Because of anger, the person is very difficult to care for due to misplaced feelings of rage and envy.

Recently I contacted Scott from Australia who is a fan of Ken and Dana's Snydecast. In an effort to learn more about Aussies and find something to fill this space... I sent Scott a box of American goodies.

Popeye: The Motion Picture & Popeye Village

Over the years we have heard the boys talk about Popeye.

Ken, in particular, has shown a fondness for the 1980 film version starring Robin Williams.

If you have never had the pleasure of seeing this flick, do yourself a favor and seek it out.

In the meantime, here is the trailer:

One of the most unique things about this film is that most of the sets are still standing on the island of Malta as part of a Popeye amusement park. It would be an amazing place to visit.

The people at Precision Valve were in charge of making sure that astronauts could enjoy their fizzy soft drinks as they hit golf balls on the moon and punched aliens in the face (everything I know about the space program I learned from the film Independence Day... which wasn't even about the space program.)Here is a tiny little scan of a trade ad for the soda:

Video: The Cicada Club in Los Angeles

On KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #92: Fred Fu Dana talks about the amazing Maxwell DeMille's Cicada Club on South Olive Street in Los Angeles.

The club is an amazing recreation of the golden age of night clubs. Dana was there on AUGUST 19, 2009 to see his friend Christine Nelson perform with her band.

As Dana mentioned on the podcast the performance was taped and is on YouTube.

Dana says you can see him wearing a black suit (with no hat) slow dancing with his wife during the first slow song.

EDIT: I am astonished to report that eagle eyed reader "I'm That Jon" actually found Dana in the video.

I was on iTunes the other day to give Ken's new podcast a well deserved favorable review (you should do the same, click here) and I decided to check on the reviews of the Snydecast.

I can't say I would have expected a glut of positive reviews, after all there hasn't been a show in 160 days or so.

I did find a couple new five star reviews:

Yes, Ken did get hit by the train. He's OK, but the train had to be scrapped.

Now there were also some negative reviews. First there was this dude who just wanted to tell us he liked a different show:

Interestingly I ran into Steve Dave and he told me you are "a reeel dooosh".

Also there was a review from this guy who hopes "everything's ok":

The guys are OK, they are just worn out from spending time with your momma.

Finally there was this one from Duckie D.:

I am often asked to explain why my user name is Dr. Wienerbreath ESQ. It's not easy. Sure, I can show them my legal degree and my doctor licence, but Wienerbreath?

I usually tell them that it was discussed over the course of a few Snydecast episodes.

They usually say "oh, was that one of the recent episodes that Ken and Dana recorded this month?" and then I laugh and laugh.. usually until I vomit and pass out.

So.... what did he say? Can it possibly live up to our imaginations? I don't know.

You may remember this email that was posted on the blog:

Hey, Guy!I'm in need of your assistance. For no real reason other than I've had a single Snydecast exchange running through my head for several weeks and I've listened high and low through every episode that comes to mind, but so far I've come across nothing. It's become an earworm of sorts at this point, and I'm just trying to find it in order to save what little sanity I have left. I want to say it's from an older episode, but I may be wrong. Basically, it's part of a discussion where Dana's fondness for fries is brought up (like THAT really narrows it down) and then Plumey goes into a little bit (in character as Snydely) that has Dana going from store to store in a mall asking everybody he sees if they have any fries. It's just a short, funny little moment and for the life of me, I can't find it. Help me, Wienerbreath! HELP ME!!!Hugs and kisses,-AC

Yesterday I got TWO emails with the answer. One was from a reader of this blog named Patrick, the other was from A.C. (who sent in the question).These are the words Patrick wrote:

The Snydecast that AC was looking for where Dana was discussing his fondness of fries was Snydecast #132: iSnyde, and the exchange between Ken and Dana occurs around 41 minutes in.

These are the words AC wrote:

SUCCESS!Came across this by chance, actually, while listening to Snydecast episode #132: "iSnyde." The "got any fries?" thing shows up at about the 40-minute mark, at the tail end of an epic 20+ minute fast food rant by the guys. And it was indeed spurred by a discussion about the aforementioned visit to Hot Dog on a Stick.So there it is. Mystery solved, for what it's worth. Back in 2009 on KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #98: Timothy’s Circus of Crime the boys talked Condorman!

Dana praised the film and loved the combination of Disney and Oliver Reed.

Oliver Reed was a legendary English actor who was also known for his excessive drinking.

Here is a short clip of one of his drunken TV appearances:

Oliver Reed appeared in over 100 productions, the last being the Russel Crowe film Gladiator.

Oliver Reed also co starred in Condorman. Condorman is a silly spy film made by the Disney company in 1981. It's lots of fun to watch and features some goofy special effects and some neat animation.

The DVD is available through the Disney Movie Club.
