Here is part three of my chat with Aaron Poole about his numerous appearances on The Ken PD Snydecast.
In this clip we talk about KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #113: Nuts On The Snyde Part 2.
Thanks to Aaron Poole for taking the time to give us a little 'behind the scenes' look at some Snydecast episodes.
Is there anyone YOU would like to hear from? Post a comment and I will see if I can chat with them.
Adult Swim’s Dana Snyder and FRED’s Ken Plume set out to have a literate conversation between two pals, but inevitably devolve into a verbal, and funny, free-for-all full of bickering, infighting, and the special kind of male bonding that comes from conflict expressed through the podcast medium. This, dear friends, is the online experience!

A Second Listen: KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #112 - Shoo Fly
KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #112: Shoo Fly is a fun episode that features Dana, Ken and Aaron Poole driving around Atlanta (over the 2009 DragonCon weekend.)
As they drive they see a man that may have been a woman, a place that is either called Fat Mutts or Fat Matts (but not Fat Nuts) and they talk about the Aqua Teen Christmas album.
They are using a GPS (and riding in an old cop car) and Aaron mentions how TomTom had the voice of Mr. T available on their GPS:
After cruising around a bit they end up at Milltown Arms Tavern for a bite to eat.
Milltown Arms Tavern
180 Carroll St SE, Atlanta, GA 30312
(404) 827-0434
At the restaurant they talk about Dana's appearance on Brothers & Sisters, Dana chats with the waitress about types of wings and Ken explains to Aaron Poole what "Texas toast" and "pot stickers" are.
You also hear the sounds of construction as the Tavern was having booths put in and opening the room up a bit for "dart tournaments".
The show ends with an awkward "how to split the bill" discussion.
KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #112: Shoo Fly is lots of fun. Give it another listen.

Sarge's Deli
On KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #50: The Big One Dana mentions that one of his favorite places to get food, when he lived in NYC, was Sarge's Deli.
Sarge's Deli is located at:
Sarge's Deli is located at:
548 3rd Avenue Manhattan, NY 10016
(212) 679-0442
One of the things Dana pointed out, is that they deliver 24 hours a day. He said he would often get food from there in the middle of the night.
He fondly recalls the "British Burger" which was served on an English muffin.
They don't have that on their menu anymore, but they do have a Skyscraper Burger that is "piled high with pastrami", a Turkey Burger "made out of the finest turkey" and a Battery Park Burger "that tastes like a 9 volt battery."
However, The Dish restaurant in NYC does have a British Burger served on an over-sized English muffin.
For a true Young Snydley experience, get the English muffin at The Dish and the burger from Sarge's... and then break into Dana's old apartment at 3am and eat it there.
Bon appetit!

VIDEO: Schneider from One Day at a Time
On KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #100: Our Only Friend, The End there is some wonderful talk about Pat Harrington Jr. and his portrayal of Schneider on "One Day at a Time".
If you haven't seen One Day at a Time, Schneider was the "Kramer" of the show.
He was a wacky handyman who had all the best lines on the show.
Here is a great clip of Schneider talking about his childhood:
Here is a lousy 45 second clip where Norman Lear is asked about casting Pat Harrington Jr. He doesn't remember how it happened.
Yeah, that was pointless.
This next clip is fun, it's Pat (looking nothing like his Schneider persona) appearing on the classic game show Match Game:
Finally, for those of you that have never seen the show, here is a "minisode":
I suppose minisodes are for people who find watching a 30 minute sitcom arduous. This episode is great because Mark Hamill plays Schneider's nephew!
Hope you liked the clips. Now go and re-listen to KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #100: Our Only Friend, The End!

The Sonnet Project
Here is something pretty neat that popped up on my radar last night:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1384441698/ny-shakespeare-exchange-sonnet-project-and-island
Among the benefits of donating is this:
Unfortunately it looks like someone already swooped it up. I hope it's a listener!
Still, go give em some money. It's the arts. They are worth supporting.
I wonder if for another $250 you could get Plumey to do you voicemail message in his Dana Snyder impression...
Here is the synopsis of the project:
The Sonnet Project is a year-long internet-based, video exploration of Shakespeare’s great love poems. We will film all 154 sonnets, performed by 154 different actors in 154 unique locations throughout the five boroughs of New York City.
Then, beginning at the Bard’s 449th birthday party we will begin to release the videos, three per week, for one full year. The culmination of the project, on Shakespeare’s 450th birthday, will be marked by the release of a full Sonnet Project Anthology, complete with special features exploring the textual nuances of the language, behind-the-scenes footage and interviews with the creators and actors.
Throughout the release year, we will work with web designers to create an interactive Sonnet Project website that will be available for educators and Shakespeare-lovers of all ages. We will develop a Sonnet Project mobile app for the delivery of each new sonnet video, and to provide access to text analysis and information about the NYC film locations. We will create sonnet-based walking tours of NYC neighborhoods, and develop sonnet scavenger hunts making use of QR codes and mobile technology.
The year will also be peppered with sonnet-based events that will bring together theater artists for explorations of the poetry through varying artistic aesthetics. By developing this intensive program, we plan to open up these nuggets of beauty to a global audience. Basing the program in NYC brings the language to bear in a contemporary, urban setting and shines a light on the language in a way that is accessible for today’s audiences.
Also, because the sonnets are short and easily digested, they provide an opportunity for audiences to experience Shakespeare on a day-to-day basis. In this way, we hope to embed Shakespeare into the daily lives of people across the globe. You can go here to donate:
Our goal is to reach an audience of 1,000,000 by Shakespeare’s 450th birthday.

Dana on Brothers and Sisters in 2007
Wow, this scene is fantastic. Dana getting yelled at by a 75 year old Gidget as he drinks beer and then talks about Nachos:
"Sorry! Green Party. So, who's up for some more nachos?"
I thought y'all would appreciate some of the Twitter back and forth that led to this clip being posted on the blog:

I actually think, for a clip like this, lower quality is better. It makes the odds of it being pulled for copyright reasons much lower.
Thanks to Scott for suggesting it and Jon for posting it! This was a great scene that may of the Snydecast fans (including me) have never seen.

Pinks & Wienerschnitzel
KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #100: Our Only Friend, The End features talk of two hot dog eateries that are out on the West Coast.
Pinks is an L.A. landmark. They have been on the corner of Melrose and LaBrea since the 1940s.
Fonzie likes it:
Here is a Food Channel video on Pinks:
Wienerschnitzel is a very different place. It's a fast food chain, but like Pinks, isn't in Ken's area.
On the show the boys refer to it as "the Taco Bell of hot dogs", however Dana says if it's "for a regular hot dog" he prefers Wienerschnitzel (over Pinks.)
His reason is that they use a regular steamed hot dog bun (whereas Pinks uses as harder roll.)

Ken & Kermit
A Second Listen: KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #100: Our Only Friend, The End
KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #100: Our Only Friend, The End is a wonderful episode to re-listen to. Ken and Dana celebrate 100 episodes by opening a sealed envelope that they were holding onto since episode 1.
The envelope contained the admission that they both have been slowly poisoning one another since episode 1.
Topics included Dee Snider:
Dana even mentions once attending a costume contest as Schneider.
The show also features talk of Pinks, Wienerschnitzel, O'Charley's, Tony Clifton, Kenneth Mars and the movie Full Moon High:
During the show Dana mentions a hat that Astan gave him I asked Astan what it looked like:
Also, the phrase "release the cheese kraken" is uttered.
Its a fun episode. Give KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #100: Our Only Friend, The End another listen, you will be glad you did!

KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #116: Sometimes You Feel Like A Nut features talk of Elvis' "Jungle Room" at Graceland.
Legend has it, Elvis heard of a store that had "ugly furniture" - so he bought it all and then put it in his den.
Then he had the ceiling and floor covered with green carpet.
And now... the weirdest thing you will see all day:

That's the end.
This weekend marked the end of the run of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum at the Riverside Theatre in Vero Beach, Florida.
The show was a hit and really looked like a lot of fun. If you haven't seen it yet, check out this wonderful batch of highlights from YouTube:
The looks like a riot and I am sure we will here about it on future Ken PD Snydecasts. Reviews were extremely positive with TCpalm.com calling it "a hit" and Pam Harbaugh of floridatoday.com writing:
Riverside's 'Forum' is as funny as it gets
Looks like the cultural season is winding down not with a whimper, but a bang.
It began early, on Thursday evening in Vero Beach, at Riverside Theatre’s opening of “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.”
All you needing a little lift should make plans to see one of the funniest productions I’ve seen on stage.
The web page for the show is still up and contains some gems such as Dana's bio:
Dana Snyder* / Pseudolus
DANA is thrilled to be returning to Riverside after Playing Bialystock in last years production of The Producers. Other credits include, ART, Guys and Dolls, Tuna Christmas, Caine Mutiny Court-Martial , Charley's Aunt, Wait Until Dark, Damn Yankees, 1940's Radio Hour, and Sylvia. On television, Dana is most associated with the voice of Master Shake on Adult Swim's Aqua Teen Hunger Force He is most recognized in the animation world where he has done hundreds of tv shows . Here are some other cartoons he has recurring parts that you may never have heard of! Nickelodeon's Penguins of Madagascar, Disney's Fishooks, Adult Swim's Venture Brothers and Squidbillies, Cartoon Network's Adventure Time, MAD, Flapjack, and Chowder among many others! He sends all his thanks to the great gang here at Riverside (kiss up) and all his love to his wife Sweetie (double kiss up for letting him be away for 7 weeks)! He dedicates his performance here to his incredible Aunt Sherry!
Plus I know a few Snydecast listeners were able to see the show. I even got a chance to speak to a few:
Another wonderful chapter in the career of Dana Snyder is finished. Next up? I don't know.... but I hope it includes some new Snydecasts!

John Waters' dining room
On KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #116: Sometimes You Feel Like A Nut Dana and (guest host Widgett Walls) talk about John Waters' dining room.
Dana mentions that it is full of plastic food.
This seems weird, but hey, it's John Waters.
rookiemag.com did a photo gallery on John Waters house in February. There were two shots of fake food (with original captions):
“I have a lot of fake food around the house.” Why do you have so much fake food? “I dunno, I guess so I won’t eat it all?”

SNYDEMAIL BAG: Dana's Moroccan Stew
Hey Dr. Wienerbreath ,
I tweeted to you earlier about making Dana's Moroccan stew recipe! You probably already know it was fantastic, haha.
Anyway, I remember that you said to take photos of his French Onion soup -- which I would have if I hadn't finished it off so fast! So this time when I made the stew I made sure I did. I've attached the photo! (Sorry it's not the most photogenic food, lol)
Also, next time I make his French Onion soup I'll be sure to take a photo of that too. However, the Snydewich is up next! I've been wanting to make that since that particular episode of the cast came out!
~ Dylan/SithusX
Seriously, that looks amazing.
Here is the recipe:
Dana's Moroccan Stew
1 large white (or yellow) Vidalia onion (medium diced)
6 cloves of garlic (chopped)
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp cumin
1 large heaping tbsp sweet paprika
1/8 tbsp cayenne pepper
1 tbsp sugar
3 cans (10oz cans) of garbanzo beans (chickpeas)
1 quart low sodium chicken stock
1 can diced tomatoes
1 bag fresh spinach
extra virgin olive oil
salt
pepper
1. Cover the bottom of a large pot with olive oil. Add 1 large diced onion and six chopped garlic cloves. Cook until translucent (do not brown.)
2. Add 1 tsp cinnamon, 1 tsp cumin, 1 large heaping tbsp sweet paprika and 1/8 tbsp cayenne pepper. Mix for 1-2 minutes at medium to medium/high heat. (Make sure to not brown onions.)
3. Add 1 quart low sodium chicken stock. Rinse and add the garbanzo beans. Add 1 can of diced tomatoes. Add 1 tbsp sugar, a couple of pinches of salt and ten twists of pepper (from a peppermill.) Bring to a simmer.
4. Turn heat to low and allow it to stew for 45 minutes under a lid.
5. Remove lid and mash garbanzo beans with a potato masher.
6. Add spinach and mix until it wilts.
7. Serve with a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil on top of each serving.
The Moroccan Stew was first mentioned on KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #159: Soup’s On (Ken & Dana return with a conversation that focuses largely on soup. Or a stew. We’re not really sure.)
Go ahead and make some! Then shoot me an email and let me know how it turned out. Or let me know anything else you want posted on the blog.

A SECOND LISTEN: KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #116: Sometimes You Feel Like A Nut
KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #116: Sometimes You Feel Like A Nut is a very unique episode because it's the first one that DIDN'T include Plumey (save for a very funny intro.)
Instead of Ken we get Widgett Walls who (at the time) was Ken's co-host on the very funny Nuts on the Road podcast.
Widgett joined Dana via satellite from Baltimore, MD.
I know he was via satellite because Dana explains how the 4 Snydecast satellite trucks were sent to Baltimore via police escort.
This episode features talk of Dana's Elvis suit and details of the "suit fitting" photographs which were taken by Elvis who now has the head of a small boy.
Then the King graces the podcast with tales of Carls Jr and Hotlanta.
Plus, burger smoothies were invented on the show:
I recently talked to Widgett about this episode. I put his recollections into a YouTube video... and I decided to add some Bob Creash Quintet to the video. It just seemed right.
