Here is a video featuring those costumes.

Ken PD Snydecast #19 & Muppets

As the minutes tick away until Halloween you probably have some pumpkin carving or decorating or SOMETHING to multitask to. May I recommend:
KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #19: All Hallow’s Grimace
"Dana Snyder and Ken Plume’s weekly chat podcast returns with Halloween preparations, McDonald’s cuisine, and that same ol’ loveable banter."

It's a classic.
Also, treat your eyeballs to these classic Halloween clips from The Muppet Show:

The Kübler-Ross model

Here is something I found on Wikipedia:
The Kübler-Ross model, commonly known as The Five Stages of Grief, was first introduced by Elisabeth Kübler-Ross in 1969.
Would you to see a picture of Elisabeth Kübler-Ross? Feast your eyes on this:
Yeeeeeaaaaahhhh! Now look at a picture of Elisabeth Kübler-Ross:
Kinda looks like my Uncle Phil!

Anywhoo, Elisabeth Kübler-Ross brilliantly laid out the stages that everyone goes through when dealing with the loss of a loved one... or a loved podcast.

 The stages include:

Denial — "I feel fine."; "This can't be happening, not to me." Denial is usually only a temporary defense for the individual. This feeling is generally replaced with heightened awareness of possessions and individuals that will be left behind after death.

Anger — "Why me? It's not fair!"; "How can this happen to me?"; '"Who is to blame?" Once in the second stage, the individual recognizes that denial cannot continue. Because of anger, the person is very difficult to care for due to misplaced feelings of rage and envy.

Bargaining — "I'll do anything for a few more years."; "I will give my life savings if..." The third stage involves the hope that the individual can somehow postpone or delay death. Usually, the negotiation for an extended life is made with a higher power in exchange for a reformed lifestyle. Psychologically, the individual is saying, "I understand I will die, but if I could just do something to buy more time..."

Depression — "I'm so sad, why bother with anything?"; "I'm going to die soon so what's the point... What's the point?"; "I miss my loved one, why go on?" During the fourth stage, the dying person begins to understand the certainty of death. Because of this, the individual may become silent, refuse visitors and spend much of the time crying and grieving. This process allows the dying person to disconnect from things of love and affection. It is not recommended to attempt to cheer up an individual who is in this stage. It is an important time for grieving that must be processed.

Acceptance — "It's going to be okay."; "I can't fight it, I may as well prepare for it." In this last stage, individuals begin to come to terms with their mortality, or that of a loved one, or other tragic event.

Ken's Twitter Picture

Recently Ken pondered changing his Twitter avatar:

EXCITING! I hope he chooses this:

Snydecast blog Cultural Exchange

Recently I contacted Scott from Australia who is a fan of Ken and Dana's Snydecast. In an effort to learn more about Aussies and find something to fill this space... I sent Scott a box of American goodies.

I included some Snydecast related items (a kazoo and some chattering teeth) and a bunch of other stuff.

I made a long winded and slightly obnoxious video before I sent the items:

About a week later I received a package in the mail and made another long winded (but slightly less obnoxious) video:

Popeye: The Motion Picture & Popeye Village

Over the years we have heard the boys talk about Popeye.

Ken, in particular, has shown a fondness for the 1980 film version starring Robin Williams.

If you have never had the pleasure of seeing this flick, do yourself a favor and seek it out.

In the meantime, here is the trailer:

One of the most unique things about this film is that most of the sets are still standing on the island of Malta as part of a Popeye amusement park. It would be an amazing place to visit.

In lieu of a flight to Malta here are some videos I have found that show the area today:

Ever want to see a Maltese Olive Oyl lip synch Katy Perry's "Hot and Cold"? Of course you have:

Would you like to see Popeye, a wizard, a granny, a rabbit, a chipmunk and a bear do the macarena to the song "Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer"? Sure you would:

Would you like to see Popeye sing a song that sounds like "Bang a Gong" by Power Station? No? Then don't play the next video:

Finally, here is a beautiful video that shows the area from a distance. It's really a beautiful sight!

Ken's Space Pepsi

Recently Ken tweeted this oddity:
This odd Pepsi whipped cream can was actually designed to be used in space. Take a look at the back of the can:
The people at Precision Valve were in charge of making sure that astronauts could enjoy their fizzy soft drinks as they hit golf balls on the moon and punched aliens in the face (everything I know about the space program I learned from the film Independence Day... which wasn't even about the space program.) Here is a tiny little scan of a trade ad for the soda:
In addition to Pepsi, Coke made a space cola. Both are on display in a museum somewhere. See proof below:
Of course, this was all for show. As we know astronauts just drink regular Pepsi from bottles:

The wait is OVER!

Yes, for the first time in 58 days Dana has returned to Twitter!

I hope nobody was expecting a return of the Snydecast today...

Sure, our ears are longing for the dulcet tones of Plumey and Snydely, but at least we can get toasty warm from head to toe!

Video: The Cicada Club in Los Angeles

On KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #92: Fred Fu Dana talks about the amazing Maxwell DeMille's Cicada Club on South Olive Street in Los Angeles.
The club is an amazing recreation of the golden age of night clubs. Dana was there on AUGUST 19, 2009 to see his friend Christine Nelson perform with her band.

As Dana mentioned on the podcast the performance was taped and is on YouTube.

Dana says you can see him wearing a black suit (with no hat) slow dancing with his wife during the first slow song.

I will send a brand new penny to whomever finds him... winner must pay shipping.

EDIT: I am astonished to report that eagle eyed reader "I'm That Jon" actually found Dana in the video.
I am also happy to report that "eagle eyed" is a comment about his ability to spot small details, rather than a terrible ocular defect.

You are a winner sir! In order to claim your prize simply write your name and address on your computer screen in black sharpie. Make sure the blog is open so I can see it.

Then stick $3 shipping (plus 1 cent handling) into your CD-ROM drive or USB port and the penny will be sent ASAP!

Still a 5 Star Show... but for how long?

I was on iTunes the other day to give Ken's new podcast a well deserved favorable review (you should do the same, click here) and I decided to check on the reviews of the Snydecast.

I can't say I would have expected a glut of positive reviews, after all there hasn't been a show in 160 days or so.

I did find a couple new five star reviews:
Yes, Ken did get hit by the train. He's OK, but the train had to be scrapped.
You are the listener prophesied! Welcome aboard.

Now there were also some negative reviews. First there was this dude who just wanted to tell us he liked a different show:
Interestingly I ran into Steve Dave and he told me you are "a reeel dooosh".

Also there was a review from this guy who hopes "everything's ok":
The guys are OK, they are just worn out from spending time with your momma.

Finally there was this one from Duckie D.:
Oddly he was excited enough to use 3 exclamation points. Sad to hear he was let down. Now he knows how his wife feels.

If you haven't done so by now, you can leave a five star review here.

Ken's new Dr. Who podcast

If you haven't heard it yet, go to asitecalledfred.com NOW!

Description: Whotininnies 1: A Short Time Ago

Update on: whatever the hell we were talking about before

To recap, the other day I got this tweet:

See, at the end of the show Dana and Ken were talking about this video:

Then the following exchange happened:

What did Ken say? I asked Ken and Dana, here are their responses:

I know, it was 3 years ago and I don't recall every joke I said in 2009, but MAN that joke must have been something.

I don't think we have ever heard Dana crack up like that! It was like Ken was Babe Ruth hitting a homer with the bases loaded at the bottom of the 9th with the bases loaded, the World Series on the line and President J. Edgar Hoover in the stands cheering him:

Nom de plume-y

I am often asked to explain why my user name is Dr. Wienerbreath ESQ. It's not easy. Sure, I can show them my legal degree and my doctor licence, but Wienerbreath?

I usually tell them that it was discussed over the course of a few Snydecast episodes.

They usually say "oh, was that one of the recent episodes that Ken and Dana recorded this month?" and then I laugh and laugh.. usually until I vomit and pass out.

Anyway, to make life easier I put together the following video:

What did Ken say?

Recently this tweet showed up on Twitter:

Ken PD Snydecast #85: Sucker Bet was released in 2009 and it ends with a bang.
Ken and Dana are discussing this amazing video:

At the close of the discussion Ken says "...although, a little part of me does wonder... I'm gonna turn my mike off. I'm gonna tell you what I say."
Ken then says something that puts he and Dana in a state of euphoric shock.
I took the last couple minutes of the show and made a YouTube video of it. Check it out:

So.... what did he say? Can it possibly live up to our imaginations? I don't know.
I am going to shoot an email to Ken & Dana. They are too busy to make another Snydecast, but maybe they have time to answer stupid questions.
If you have a guess, stick it in the comments!

UPDATE: I recieved a response from Dana "I can tell you wholly, I have no idea whatsoever."
Ken, the ball is in your court... what did you say about this young lady? Did it involve balls? We must know!

Video: The Love Boat

Back on KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #130: Exciting And New the boys argued about The Love Boat being shot on an actual cruise ship (not a soundstage.)

Amazingly it was.

Feast your eyeballs on this video where Gavin MacLeod and Lauren Tewes chat about the making of the show:

Now watch this horrifically bad Love Boat promo. It features Buddy Hackett, but the cutting is so odd it's hard to understand what is going on. Plus at the end it looks like Bernie Kopell is narrating the promo as he lies on his stomach:

This promo is far better. It shows some clips of an episode with Ted Knight and Charles Nelson Riley! Plus some Fantasy Island goodness:

The Mail Song

You know you love it.
Check out the Ken PD Snydecast Experience YouTube page:

Also, check out Ken's Bit of a Chat page. He has been crankin' them out lately!

Liberace on The Muppet Show

On Ken P.D. Snydecast #114: Baby Driver the boys talk about Liberace:

Dana: What’s funny about Liberace is that there is no reason he ever should have been famous. He was so stiff-
Ken: (chuckles)
Dana: Alright, what are we in? Seventh grade? We will laugh about that later, when we get in seventh grade.
Ken: I say we take the podcast down to seventh grade. That way we get more listeners.
Dana: He basically has the world’s worst stage presence.
Ken: Yeah, but look at the rise. The rise of Liberace really happened- and again, I don’t mean the puns, In the 50s with TV. Anyone could be a star in the 50s.
Dana: Oh absolutely it did! There it worked perfect.
Ken: Because he was flamboyant, he had massive gestures that filled a TV screen.

The discussion touches upon the many wacky things that Liberace did during his career.

Of course, his appearance on The Muppet Show was mentioned.Take a look:

Baron Hats

On KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #88: Mad Hatters the boys spend much of the podcast pursuing a hat website.

That site, baronhats.com is full of amazing replicas of famous hats from TV and movies all of which cost more than a 42" LCD TV.

Here are some of the hats they looked at:

The Mask hat:

The Abe Lincoln Stovepipe hat:

The Kolchak hat from "The Night Stalker":

Ken wanted to find Doc Hopper's hat (from The Muppet Movie):

The closest thing he could find was "The Grad":
Go check out baronhats.com it really is amazing, and give KEN P.D. SNYDECAST #88: Mad Hatters another listen!
Ken: Best podcast we’ve ever done.
Dana: I think most people will think it’s the worst.

Snydely sighting

Looks like Dana has been back to Musso & Franks (Hollywood's oldest eatery and the bane of Plumey's lower GI).
Check out this picture tweeted by Dana Swanson:
What was Dana doing there? Probably having stuffed celery or diplomat pudding with friends and having his salad tossed by this guy:

What was he NOT doing? Recording a new Snydecast. 157 days and counting, dude.

Check out Dana Swanson on Twitter, check out her blog, listen to her band and stare at her imdb page until you go cross-eyed.

Video: Charles Nelson Reilly

Charles Nelson Reilly would have celebrated his 80th birthday this year.

Charles was a tremendous acting talent, but was better known for his game show buffoonery.

Maybe it's for the best.

He was really, really funny.

Here are a couple of clips of Charles in action:
